2 people set woman's car on fire in Miami, police say

Car deemed total loss

MIAMI – A woman's car was deemed a total loss after someone set it on fire outside her sister's apartment building in Miami Friday morning.

Police said Yannis Tapanes, 29, was spending the night at her sister's home on Northwest 7 Street off SR 836 when she heard a car alarm around 1:10 a.m.

Tapanes told police she looked out the window and saw her car fully engulfed in flames. Surveillance cameras showed two people exiting another vehicle and throwing some sort of incendiary device at Tapanes' car.

Police said the victim's family members were able to extinguish the flames and no one was injured, however the car was destroyed.
