The surf may be rough but it hasn't stopped swimmers from hitting the water across South Florida.

A rip current advisory has been extended in Miami-Dade as red and purple flags are fly high across local beaches.

The flags warn swimmers of rough surf and marine life.

Crews at Haulover beach had to rescue two swimmers and transport one to the hospital.

Fire rescue tells Local 10 an elderly man was pulled from the water unresponsive near life guard post number 5, which was closed.

Officials performed CPR until they got a pulse and sent the man to the hospital.

A second swimmer was treated and released.

In Fort Lauderdale, life guards reported saving 13 lives and taking 809 preventative actions over the weekend.

Fire rescues across the area are encouraging swimmers to stay out of the water or at least close to the shore.
