2 restaurants, ice cream shop told to shut, clean up

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – East China's website claims the owner will greet you with the warmest welcome.

"We have made painstaking efforts to create the tidiest and cleanest dining place, and guarantee you with friendly and timely service."

But an inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation found something very  different during a routine unannounced inspection.

Below is a list of places ordered shut and a few of its violations. The places listed were allowed to re-open following ordered clean up and re-inspections.

***East China

910 N. Federal Highway

Fort Lauderdale

18 violations

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 4 fresh droppings found under Microwave next to fryer. 2 fresh under shelf filled with cardboard front left hand side of kitchen. 7 fresh droppings found around water heater and 3 fresh droppings on top of water heater next to three compartment sink, 4 fresh droppings found on floor under shelf next to chest freezer at the end of kitchen. About 50 fresh droppings found on shelf over dry storage with a nest. Which was empty."

"Bathroom facility not clean."

***Banana Hut

Miami

35 violations

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found in storage closet, approximately 10, next to kitchen, by 3 part sink approximately 10, in kitchen, location open to the public at inspection time."

"Live, small flying insects in food preparation area."

"Live flies in kitchen."

"Employee began working with food, handling clean equipment or utensils, or touching unwrapped single-service items without first washing hands."

***Brendy's Ice Cream and Yogurt

5030 Champions Blvd.

Boca Raton

5 violations

"Displayed food not properly protected from contamination , waffle cones and other cones have no overhead protection from the debris. Cones opening facing."

"Observed Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found, 5 roaches on the shelf and boxes by the top of the two door refrigerator, next to the ice cream cone dispenser. Approximately a hundred roach droppings on the shelf above the chest freezer where all the cookie toppings boxes are stored. Approximately 27 roaches came out of the boxes. There was also 1 roach by the electrical panel."

"Pesticide/insecticide labeled for household use only present in establishment."
