MIAMI - Police are investigating after two people were shot Saturday afternoon during an attempted home invasion in northwest Miami.
Manuel Cruz told Local 10's Baron James that he and two of his friends were sitting on the front patio of their home, located at 4825 Northwest 29th Avenue, when the incident happened.
When one of them went to a nearby store to purchase beer, he was apparently followed by three young men.
Cruz said one of the men that was armed ordered the victims to unlock the front door to the house and go in.
"The guy, two over there, and the one guy put a gun to my head," said Cruz.
With the gun to Cruz's head, he said he was willing to hand over his cell phone and wallet.
"Everything, telefono," Cruz said.
Instead of going inside, two of the victims wrestled with the armed man, one of them allegedly smashing a bottle over his head, according to Cruz.
However, before running away, the armed man shot one of the victims in the arm and another victim in the chest. The suspects took off on foot empty handed.
"Things happen everyday, everywhere, every place, so there's no good neighborhoods," said Walter Sims, who lives nearby.
Both of the victims are currently in stable condition, according to Det. Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department. No descriptions of the suspects have been provided by police at this time.
