NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Two teenagers are facing murder charges in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy who was waiting at a bus stop in North Miami Beach.
William Guiterrez, 17, and Yveslander Oriscar, 19, were arrested on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Miami-Dade police said the teens ambushed Bryan Mercado as he and a friend waited at a bus stop Monday afternoon near Northeast 163rd Street and Northeast 15th Avenue.
According to the arrest affidavits, Guiterrez and Oriscar ran up behind Mercado, with Oriscar repeatedly telling Guiterrez to "shoot him." Moments later, Guiterrez pulled out a gun and fired several shots, fatally wounding Mercado.
Mercado attended Mavericks High, a charter school for at-risk students not far from where he was killed.
"Nobody deserves to die like this," Mercado's father told Local 10 News crime specialist John Turchin.
A 72-year-old woman who was also at the bus stop was shot in the ankle. She was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Local 10 News was there when the suspects were apprehended less than a mile away as they tried to board a Miami Mini-Bus.
Police did not reveal a motive for the shooting.
Mercado's father said he hopes his son's killers receive the death penalty.
"They deserve it," he said.
