LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Deputies say one person remains in critical condition after four men were shot at an apartment complex in Lauderdale Lakes.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said the incident happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday at the Whispering Palms apartment complex in the 4500 block of NW 36th Street.
Witnesses told BSO detectives that an ongoing fight between two men, 25-year-old Neville Lynch and 22-year-old David Rose, intensified with threats of physical violence.
During the argument, deputies said Lynch, his 50-year-old stepfather Gilespie Isaacs, and several others were standing on the balcony of the apartment mincing words with Rose and his associates on the ground.
One of Lynch's unnamed associates came downstairs from the balcony and got into a physical fight with Rose, said deputies.
Authorities said Lynch brandished a handgun from the balcony and allegedly began shooting at Rose, striking him in the shoulder.
Mark Rose, 25, returned fire from the ground, striking Lynch and Isaacs. Deputies said another man, 25-year-old Kevin Dobson, was also struck by the gunfire standing on the balcony, but he left the scene before deputies arrived.
Lynch was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. Deputies said Isaacs was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and was later released.
Authorities said the unwounded Rose was driven by a friend to Florida Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Detectives interviewed those involved along with over a dozen witnesses well into Sunday and preliminarily determined Rose's actions were justifiable, said deputies. Rose possesses a license to carry a concealed weapon, but was arrested on an outstanding, unrelated civil writ.
Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and, on completion, will likely go to the State Attorney's Office for review.
