MIAMI - The Miami City Commission is considering a resolution that could prevent the Ultra Music Festival from expanding to two weekends.
Ultra organizers previously announced they were holding the electronic music festival from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, and Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24.
But a resolution introduced on Dec. 31 calls for a vote on denying the festival a second weekend, citing disruption to residents and businesses in the area. It takes away the Bayfront Park Management Trust's power to hold the festival for a second weekend.
Another resolution, which looks at Ultra's request to the Florida Department of Transportation to close the northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard from Chopin Plaza to NE 6th Street during the festival, will be discussed at Thursday's meeting.
A petition against the resolution had more than 7,000 supporters Wednesday afternoon.
The commission meeting begins at 9 a.m. Thursday at City Hall in Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood.
