Mother, pastor want driver to feel full weight of justice

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ A 22-year-old war military serviceman was recovering Friday from injuries that he suffered during a hit-and-run in northwest Miami-Dade County earlier this week.

Richard Parsons' distraught mother, Rene Moore, called Local 10 News and said Thursday that her son served in the U.S. Army.

"His head is huge," Moore said as she described her son's injuries.

Eric Readon, a pastor at the New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church, 2125 NW 155 St. in Opa-locka, sent an email to Local 10 on Friday saying that Parsons was a member of his church.

The hit-and-run was Wednesday. About 2:40 p.m.,the soldier got off a public bus and was crossing Northwest 79th Street at 32nd Avenue when a driver traveling eastbound hit him. He was on his way to the Northside Metrorail Station, 3150 NW 79 St., near West Little River.

The driver of a Lincoln ran him over and left the Army reservist injured on the road. Rescue took Parsons to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he remained Friday.

Miami-Dade police Detective Daniel Ferrin said in an email that the department's traffic homicide unit was investigating the incident.

Readon said there was a financial reward for anyone with information. Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers can be reached at 305-471-6160.
