Teen's Prom Dress Program Lives On

Girl's Legacy Gets Support With Donated Space

POSTED: 4:35 pm EDT April 9, 2004
UPDATED: 10:11 am EDT April 12, 2004

Rebecca Kirtman's 17th birthday would have been today, but instead of a celebration, she was remembered by a donation that will help her legacy live on.

Today, "Becca's Closet" opened for business in donated space at the Festival Marketplace near Pompano Beach.

Becca’s Closet is a nonprofit organization that provides formal attire and scholarship funding to deserving high school students.

The organization was created to honor Kirtman (pictured, left), who was killed in an automobile accident in August 2003. In the spring of 2003, she single-handedly collected and distributed over 250 prom dresses to needy girls in South Florida so that they could attend their high school proms.

If you would like to make a donation, volunteer, or need information, call (954) 424-9999, e-mail info@beccascloset.org, or go to beccascloset.org.
