3 dead, 3 injured in Krome Ave. crash

4 victims identified

MIAMI – Three people are still recovering from a crash that killed three others on Krome Avenue Sunday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Erick Betancourt was driving a 2004 Dodge Durango in the southbound lanes of Krome Avenue when the vehicle collided head-on with a 2004 Chevy Cavalier traveling in the northbound lanes. Both vehicles ignited and were engulfed in flames.

Fifteen-year-old Gisele Betancourt was airlifted to Kendall Regional Hospital where she died.

Julissa Ochoa, 16, and Samuel Domifilo, 24, were seriously injured. Erick Betancourt was also hospitalized after the crash, but has since been released

The driver and passenger in the Chevy Cavalier have not yet been positively identified. But friends have identified the driver as Gabriel Hernandez.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating. Preliminary investigations indicate Betancourt may have been the one driving on the wrong side of the two-lane road that some call "Deadly Krome."
