3 pets killed in Wilton Manors apartment fire

Fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m.

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale fire officials say three animals were killed after a fire broke out at a Wilton Manors apartment building Monday.

The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. at 2607 NE Eighth Ave.

Fire officials confirmed two cats and one dog were pulled from the building unconscious. Firefighters attempted to resuscitate the animals but were not able to.

Extensive damage was reported in the kitchen area of the unit.

Authorities say one person lives at the apartment unit where the fire broke out but was not home at the time. They say the resident will be displaced until the unit can be repaired.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
