4 dead in 2-vehicle crash, fire

Head-on collision occurred on Okeechobee Road and the southbound turnpike

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Four people are dead, including a 5-year-old girl, after a crash Wednesday night at Okeechobee Road and the Florida Turnpike.

Police say one vehicle was traveling north on Okeechobee Road when it veered into the southbound lane, slamming the other vehicle head-on, causing one of the vehicles to roll over.

The head-on collision caused both vehicles to catch fire, preventing officials from rescuing the passengers.

Officials were able to pull the child from the wreckage. She was airlifted to the Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, but later died.

The victims' identities have not yet been released.
