4 hospitalized in white powder incident at Fort Lauderdale church

White powder found in envelope inside mail room

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Four people were taken to a hospital after coming into contact with white powder at a Fort Lauderdale church.

The white powder was discovered Thursday at 5555 N. Federal Highway.

Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue said the victims were in the mail room when they discovered an envelope filled with white powder.

Firefighters decontaminated the victims. They were then taken to a hospital and released.

A hazardous materials crew tested the powder and determined that it wasn't harmful.

Police are investigating the incident.
