6 safe after car catches fire

Passengers treated for smoke inhalation

MIAMI – Six people escaped serious injury after the Nissan Maxima in which they were riding caught fire on I-95 Monday afternoon.

Several other drivers tried flagging down the driver of the Maxima which traveling northbound on Interstate 95, near SW Eighth Street.

According to Miami Fire Rescue, the man tried to stop when he realized his car was on fire, but the brakes would not work.

He then pulled the emergency brake and slowly made his way down the shoulder of the interstate before stopping near NW Second Street as the car began filling with smoke.

All six passengers were able to get out of the car.

Miami Fire Rescue extinguished the fire and all passengers were treated at the location for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
