7 dogs rescued from puppy mill arrive in Broward County Wednesday

More than 130 dogs rescued from Alabama puppy mill

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ Seven dogs rescued from a puppy mill in Needham, Alabama arrived at the Humane Society of Broward County Wednesday.

The dogs are among more than 130 others that were seized last month by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The dogs, who ASPCA officials said were living in "filthy, deplorable conditions," include chihuahuas, chows and pomeranians. The dogs range in age from 2 months to 5 years old.

Officials said the dogs were suffering from malnourishment and other medical issues. Some dead dogs were also found at the property.

"These dogs have come a long way in a short time," said Jessica Rushin, senior partnerships manager, ASPCA Field Investigations and Response. "They've been treated as products their whole lives and are ready to become pets. We're bringing them to communities across the U.S. in the hopes that local citizens will adopt and give them a second chance."

The rescued dogs will now have homes at shelters and rescue groups in 11 states.
