8-year-old boy hit by car dies

An 8-year-old boy died  at Broward General after being hit by a car, according to authorities.

It happened on Northwest 27th Court near 56th Avenue on Saturday night.

Local 10's Christina Vazquez reported the boy was being watched by his teenage babysitter when he wandered into the road and was hit.

Police said the 20-year-old female driver stayed on the scene and was cooperative. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.

Authorities said they are investigating whether speed played a role, but they said that even a direct hit at 15 miles per hour can cause serious injury to a child.
