900 pounds of marijuana confiscated by Coast Guard

Drugs estimated to be worth $800,000

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – More than 900 pounds of marijuana confiscated by the Coast Guard will be offloaded Saturday in Miami Beach.

The drugs were found Tuesday evening off the coast of Cap Du Mole, Haiti. According to authorities, a Coast Guard crew spotted a suspicious vessel and launched to investigate.

The suspected smugglers threw several bales of contraband into the water and took off. The Coast Guard was unable to apprehend them, but recovered the cargo from the water. 

Investigators believe the drugs have a street value of approximately $800,000.
