The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida wants to know whether the recent cancellation of a baseball came that would have brought Cuban players from the island to Miami constitutes a violation of First Amendment rights.
The ACLU has filed a public records request with Florida International University requesting documents related to a contract the school signed with a group organizing the event agreeing to host two games.
The matchup would have brought retired players from Cuba's famed Industriales team to play against former teammates that now live in the U.S.
FIU said the game was being canceled due to a contractual matter. The ACLU said it has "troubling evidence" the contract was canceled because of fears of a hostile reaction from some community groups.
