Age is just a number

4-YEAR-OLD: “Mommy tomorrow is Spanish class. I’m going to ask Ms. Ana how old she is.” 

ME: “You probably shouldn’t do that. I woman never likes telling her age.” 

4-YEAR-OLD: “What’s a woman?” 

ME: “You know, a big girl.” 

4-YEAR-OLD: “So I’m a woman?” 

ME: “No, sweetheart... you won’t be woman for a very long time. “ 

4-YEAR-OLD: “How long?” 

ME: “Well, at least 14 years.” 

4-YEAR-OLD: “14!...(pause)…is that long? Count with me to 14 so I can see how far away that is.”
