An alert Boca Raton resident helped police catch a burglar.
The Boca Raton Police Department said shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday, a resident heard a loud car. When she looked outside, she saw a suspicious person at the rear of her neighbor's house trying to open the door.
That woman immediately realized something was wrong and called police.
Officers said they responded to the scene, found an open rear door, searched the house, but found no one inside the home.
But at the same time, another officer saw a male matching the suspect's description cutting between two houses.
That man, Doerksen Hiebert, was stopped and police say a search turned up coins and jewelry.
The woman who called 911 was able to identify Hiebert as the man she saw in her neighbor's backyard.
Hiebert was arrested and charged with burglary and grand theft.
