DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives say they are looking for an armed gunman with a man purse who hit two Deerfield Beach stores on two different days.

According to authorities, the first robbery took place on Dec. 18 at the Sports Authority in Deerfield Mall.

Officials said the man approached the registers as if he was purchasing a pack of sweatbands. When the cashier opened the cash drawer, BSO detectives said the man brandished a handgun from a man purse, or satchel-type bag.

Afterwards, detectives said he then startled another cashier, put the gun to her face and grabbed money out of her hand. The man fled on foot to the rear of the mall.

Detectives describe the man as a black male in his 20s. During the first robbery, detectives said the gunman wore a white T-shirt, red basketball shorts, black shoes with white soles, mirrored sunglasses and a black ball cap.

On Jan. 7 at around 11:30 a.m., detectives said they believe the same suspect entered a Michaels store across the street from the previous robbery.

After the man was in the store for about ten minutes, detectives said he waited in line like he was making a purchase. Once he got to the registers, he pulled a handgun out of the satchel and jumped over the counter, pointing the gun at the cashier, said detectives.

As one customer escaped the robbery, detectives said she almost left a small child behind.

During the second incident, officials said the man wore a white long-sleeved sweater, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a white baseball hat.

Anyone with information about these two robberies are asked to call BSO Detective John McMahon or Detective Vince Coldwell at 954-321-4270. To leave an anonymous tip, you may call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online by clicking here.
