Bees kill two dogs, injure Florida woman

Scientists say Africanized honeybees involved in attack

PALM CITY, Fla. ā€“ A Florida woman is recovering in a hospital after being attacked by what may be killer bees.

Martin County Fire-Rescue officials said that the elderly woman was walking her two dogs in Palm City on Monday morning when they were attacked by a swarm of bees near a vacant lot.

A nearby maintenance crew saw what was going on and rushed to help the woman.

She was transported to the Martin County Medical Center. Her condition is not known.

Unfortunately, the bees killed her two pet pugs.

Martin County Mosquito Control experts responded, found the comb and exterminated the bees. They said the bees will not be tested, but that their behavior resembled the actions of Africanized honeybees, also known as killer bees.

Mosquito Control has responded to several bee attacks recently in the area, but this was the most severe.
