Broward County sheriff’s deputies turn to horseback patrols

With all the cuts in the police budgets across South Florida it's no surprise that BSO is looking for volunteers to help patrol the neighborhoods.

However, in this case, they want volunteers on horseback.   BSO wants folks who have horses and are willing to participate in his mounted posse.

Right now the Sheriff's Office only has 8 deputies who are certified to ride horses and they can only do so part time.

As for the volunteer force, it's only three months old and already 30 members strong.  "Broward county residents that have their own horses, have their own trailers, enjoy riding and wanna be involved in the community," said Sgt Daniel Marks with BSO's Mounted Patrol.
