HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -

Burglars struck at least three businesses on U.S. 441 north of Griffin Road early Wednesday.

Surveillance video from a Subway restaurant shows a man appear out of nowhere and toss a huge rock through the lower portion of a door. The man then is seen barreling through the shattered glass and making a beeline for the register.

Store owner Mohammad Jamil said the alarm company woke him with the news at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"I looked at my surveillance, saw the front door broken, so I came and met the officers here," Jamil said.

A few blocks away, at Joe's Barber Shop, workers replaced a glass door Wednesday morning. Owner Joe Demaio said that fortunately, that was the only damage.

"I walked inside, and nothing was missing. Everything was ripped up. They were looking for money, which I don't leave," Demaio said.

A salon just a few doors down was also hit. But, when he broke the tinted glass, the crook must have been surprised to see the business was empty.

"It was kind of not surprising in this area that kind of thing happens," Jamil said.

The burglar did not get away with any cash, but the shattered windows will cost the owners money to repair.

"It's just an inconvenience to get this damage and then to have to have it repaired and come in at 3:30 in the morning," Jamil said.

Police have arrested Steven Sylvester and charged him with burglary, resisting arrest and probation violation. Sylvester, who is now in the Broward County Jail, was on probation for another burglary charge, police said.
