Company wants contract to maintain Lincoln Rd.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -

A private company hoping to win a no-bid contract to maintain Lincoln Road made its argument to the Miami Beach City Commission on Wednesday.

Jeff Weinstein is the director of development for UIA Management. He showed city commissioners a series of pictures that he said were taken over the weekend and document the lack of maintenance.

The snapshots included images of dirty sidewalks, broken water features and flowerbeds littered with trash and cigarette butts.

When UIA Management's Weinstein completed his presentation, the room erupted into applause.

Several people in the crowd, there to attend other agenda items, told Local 10 News they approve of the city giving the local walkway to a private company because, in their view, city workers have not been doing a good job keeping it clean.

Commissioners voted unanimously to request multiple bids from private companies.

A city representative said at this time, it is unclear when exactly the request for proposals to privatize the public maintenance of Lincoln Road would happen.
