A Boynton Beach Police officer is recovering in the hospital after he was shot in the line of duty.

Boynton Beach Police said it started when officers spotted the suspected getaway car from a robbery in Delray Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers got behind the car on Federal Highway but said the suspect refused to stop and officers chased the car until it crashed.

Police said the suspect then began shooting at the officers. One of the officers was shot. He is being treated at a local hospital and his injuries are not life threatening.

Two officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
