Cops: Kendall teenager shot inside home, hospitalized

After 6 hours of investigating, police still determining cause of shooting

KENDALL, Fla. – Police say a teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday after being shot inside a home in Kendall.

Witnesses said the incident began after 5 pm with a neighbor rushing into a townhouse to help a mother with her bleeding child.

"I was worried and alarmed," said Maria Balloveral, a neighbor. "As a mom, it's pretty scary."

"He was all bloody, on his shirt," another neighbor said.

After six hours of investigating, police said they are still unsure of how or why the shooting occurred. They believe there could be two teens and an adult involved.

"They're still trying to determine whether it was accidental, or exactly what was the reason the firearm went off." said Det. Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Police said they are questioning everyone who was inside the home at the time, but have not yet identified anyone.

Neighbors said two 13-year old brothers live there with their mother, but are unsure of anything else.

"My prayers are with the child and the mother as well," said Balloveral.

Police said the teen was taken to Miami Children's Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting is still under investigation. Stay with Local 10 as this story continues to develop.
