Two people were accused of stealing nearly $70,000 in coins from parking meters in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale police said Linda Hay, 55, and Robert Gallagher, 49, used homemade tools to break into change compartments in hundreds of meters.

Police said the pair stole $67,000 between January 2011 through July 2012.

The investigation started after the parking department noticed a huge shortfall in revenue.

Detectives said they arrested Hay after a long street investigation.

Gallagher remains on the run. Police believe he may be headed for Louisiana.
