Cops search for bikers involved in police crash that injured Hollywood officer
Armando Silva hurt in crash outside Memorial Regional Hospital
Police officers from different jurisdictions showed up Monday night at the Memorial Regional Hospital following a crash that injured one of their own.
A Hollywood Police officer is listed in critical condition from a motorcycle crash outside Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday afternoon.
The crash happened on North 35th Street, just off Johnson Street, about 1:50 p.m.
"He was attempting to stop two motorcycles traveling at a very high rate of speed," said Hollywood Police Lt. Nicole Coffin
According to police, Armando Silva, 43, was attempting to make a traffic stop on two sport bikers when he lost control of his motorcycle. It's unclear what caused the crash.
Police released pictures showing the bikers as they drove away from the crash, leaving officer Silva lying on the street.
Silva was trauma alerted to Memorial Regional Hospital.
Dozens of fellow police officers arrived at Memorial Regional Hospital following the crash.
"It's very tense right now. We're a brotherhood and a sisterhood and we take this very serious. I know you guys probably saw -- there's motorcycle officers coming from other agencies," said Lt. Coffin. "Everybody is praying, everybody is staying positive, and everybody is coming together like we always do in a situation like this."
Silva is an 18 year veteran of the Hollywood Police Department. He has spent 10 years as a motorman.
