Local couple runs radio show at home
It's a family show with a world-wide reach. The "Mom and Pop Shop" radio show went on the air, and on the internet from Miramar last year. The Bettinger family is trying to revive some old-time radio in the digital age, and it's made in South Florida.
It’s a real mom and pop operation except when 8 year old son Charlie chimes in.
"(Listeners) expect it to be coming from this wonderful awesome studio somewhere," said George Bettinger, "and it's actually in a spare bedroom in the house."
The 90 minute show is old time radio, with a combination of music, skits and jokes.
"I like to feel that I'm pouring out my energy and my love and compassion for show business and that in return they're getting a nice place that they can visit, enjoy and be part of," said Bettinger.
Listeners are part of the show...making requests and chatting on the show's Facebook page.
"They write funny things. We enjoy each other’s company. We do trivia with each other," said co-host Lizette Bettinger.
Old comedy acts like Burns and Allen and The Three Stooges are connecting with a new generation. Kids like it because it’s new to them George Bettinger says.
Fans are listening all over the world, early in the morning in Japan, and late in the evening in Italy. Where ever there is access to a computer.
"It's kind of nice to think everybody around the world is having a good laugh with us," Lizette Bettinger said.
You can hear the show here, starting at 4 p.m. on weekday afternoons.
