NORTH MIAMI, Fla. -

Desperate thieves are leading to a public safety danger.

North Miami Police reported on Friday that they are investigating numerous incidents of stolen storm drain covers and manhole covers.

They said the thieves have been leaving large holes behind which pose a serious safety hazard to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.

These manhole and drain cover thefts are just the latest examples of metals being stolen and sold for scrap.

Detectives are offering a $1,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-305-471-TIPS.
