Davie apartment complex roof collapses

El Jardin residents they have nowhere to go

DAVIE, Fla. – The roof of the El Jardin apartment complex in Davie collapsed Friday morning, unable to withstand the overnight storms.

Residents say they first noticed a leak at around 11 p.m. Thursday night.

"I start pulling all of my clothes out of the closet and throwing them on my bed," said Katrina Edwards.

But by Friday morning, a large portion of the roof caved in, leaving dozens of residents without a place to live.

"We have nowhere to go," one resident told Local 10's Sasha Andrade.

"I was just in shock," Edwards said.
The buidling's property manager blames Full Cover Roofing, saying that workers from that company have been on the roof for days doing repairs.
He said they covered their tools and equipment with tarps, but left the roof exposed.

Employees from Full Cover Roofing, however, say that the roof was covered.
Meanwhile, families say they have nowhere to go.
