Walt Disney World unveiled big plans on Thursday to redevelop Downtown Disney, renaming the shopping and dining complex Disney Springs.

The new plan doubles the number of shops, restaurants and other entertainment at Downtown Disney, taking advantage of the waterfront and building a recreation of a spring.

Disney showed off the artwork of the redeveloped commercial area with several districts, such as a town center and a waterfront landing. Disney didn't announce the third-party vendors that will lease space at the new complex, but said it will be a combination of familiar shops and restaurants elsewhere in the country along with some unique shops.

Company officials said they hope the Disney Springs will be a big draw for international visitors, but also designed with Central Floridians in mind.

The redevelopment project will create about 1,000 construction jobs and about 4,000 permanent jobs once it opens.
