An 11-year-old South Florida girl has made another step in her recovery after being attacked by a dog.
Jacklyn Tucker, 11, was attacked by a dog while playing at a friend's house, and she is now being treated at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
Part of Jacklyn's nose and upper lip were bitten off by an English bulldog-Jack Russell terrier mix last month.
"The entire upper lip, one quarter was left," said Dr. Drew Schnitt.
On Tuesday, surgeons performed an Abbe, or lip switch, where doctors took part of Jacklyn's lower lip to fix the upper lip.
Jack Tucker is Jacklyn's proud father.
"She is staying positive," said her father, Jack Tucker. "She tells everyone what happened."
Jacklyn's mouth is now sewn shut for the next three weeks. She will have to eat and drink through a straw as her face recovers.
"(I'm) pretty proud. She is holding up stronger than me," Tucker said.
