MIAMI -

Fire swept through a strip mall Wednesday night, killing as many as 30 puppies in a pet store, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 10 p.m. after several 911 calls of heavy smoke billowing from a building.

The mall is located at NW 7th Avenue and 32nd Street, just northeast of the Magic City Casino, formerly known as the Flagler Dog Track.

The fire stretched through multiple businesses, many of which were destroyed, officials say.
