PLANTATION, Fla. -

A man has died after police said his pickup rolled down an embankment and into a canal in the 6900 block of Southwest 13th Street in Plantation.

Firefighters said residents heard the commotion about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Two Good Samaritans, drove their boat to where the pickup truck went into the canal and found the driver floating in the water and suffering cardiac arrest.

According to Joel Gordon, Battalion Chief for Plantation Fire Rescue, the pair hoisted the man into their boat.

When paramedics arrived, they were able to resuscitate the man before transporting him to Westside Regional Hospital. He later died at the hospital.

Gordon said it would take hours before the pickup truck, which was submerged underwater, would be retrieved from the canal.

Plantation traffic homicide detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.

The driver's identity had not been released.
