DANIA BEACH, Fla. -

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the driver who was hit and killed on Interstate 95 south of Stirling Road on Wednesday morning.

FHP said Lawrence Schopler, 56, of Hollywood, lost control and hit the median in the northbound lanes about 4 a.m. He tried crossing the northbound lanes but was hit by three vehicles.

Schopler was pronounced dead when police arrived.

The northbound lanes were closed for about five hours.
