Household Hazardous Waste Items

Broward County residents are encouraged to recycle their used electronic equipment and dispose of household hazardous waste in an environmentally safe manner — and now that’s easier than ever.

Through a partnership between Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services and Partner Cities and Wilton Manors, a free drop-off event will be held on Sunday, February 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Municipal Complex, 2100 N. Dixie Hwy.

Residents can dispose of the following items safely and for free: household hazardous waste, including compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent tubes, paint, solvents, motor oil, pesticides, household chemicals, lawn and pool chemicals, mercury thermometers, propane tanks and fire extinguishers and up to four waste tires. Used electronics that can be disposed of includes TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, cell phones, CD and DVD players, and rechargeable batteries.

Items that will not be accepted are stereos, microwaves, kitchen appliances, explosives, biohazardous waste and business-generated waste.

Proof of Broward County residency, such as a driver's license or current utility bill, is required.

In addition to this special event, Broward County operates these permanent drop-off locations, both of which accept household hazardous waste and used electronics and are open every Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • 2780 N. Powerline Road, Pompano Beach (north of Copans Road)
  • 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., West Park (located between Miramar and Pembroke Park)
