MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -

A Miami Gardens family demanded answers on Sunday evening after their teenage son was shot and killed while in Central Florida.

Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot and killed by a volunteer crime fighter on February 26th while visiting family in Sanford.

"I love my son dearly. My heart is broken," said Sabrina Fulton, Martin's mother.

"Not only did I lose a son, I lost a dear friend," said Tracy Martin, the teen's father.

Police said the Martin was walking back to a family member's home after buying a bag of Skittles and a drink at a nearby convenience store when he got into a scuffle with a Neighborhood Watch member.

The volunteer then shot Martin in the chest. He told police it was in self-defense and has not been arrested.

"I made a promise that I won't stop until I have justice for my son," said Martin.

"I am hoping that one day, one day he will walk through the door and this is going to be a nightmare. I just want answers," said Fulton.
