HIALEAH, Fla. -

The Borroto family was in the Florida Keys last month when they received a frantic phone call from a neighbor -- their house was burning down.

They rushed to the scene, but by the time they arrived, it was too late. The Borroto's lost everything.

Fransisca Borroto purchased the home in the 80s. Her daughter, who is hearing impaired, lives with her and so does her granddaughter. Since the fire, it's been tough to make ends meet and pay the mortgage for a place that's been deemed unlivable.

So the members of the South Florida Council of Fire Fighters contacted everyone they could looking for donations. Wednesday, they gave the Borroto's $3,000.

"It means a lot," said Barbara Morales, who is the victim's niece.

Investigators said a man had set fire to the home. He has since been arrested.
