Father Who Set Marine Van, Self Ablaze Says It Was Accident

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A father who lit himself and a Marine van on fire last week after learning of his son's death in Iraq says he didn't mean to do it.

Carlos Arredondo says he simply lost it when three Marines told him his son Alexander was dead. The fire, he claims, was an accident.

"I had the torch in my right hand and when I was going out, into my first step, by mistake I hit the button and the next thing I know there was a big ball of fire."

Arredondo suffered burns to his arm and both legs.

He will be temporarily released from the hospital while he attends his son's funeral in Massachusetts Saturday.
