A firefighter was taken to a hospital with shortness of breath after fighting a fire at a Hollywood home Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 2700 block of Jackson Street about 9:20 a.m.

Hollywood fire officials said when they arrived, the firefighters found smoke and flames.

Four people who were in the home were able to get outside without injuries.

Burglar bars on the windows slowed firefighters' progress against the flames, but they were able to get the fire under control.

A cat was missing after the fire.

One firefighter was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for evaluation. The firefighter was in stable condition but was experiencing shortness of breath, officials said.
