Firefighters earn PETA praise for saving rabbits

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -

Animal rights advocates are praising some Florida firefighters for helping to save rabbits from a burning house.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said Friday it was giving its Compassionate Fire Department Award to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

The agency saved a woman from a burning Boynton Beach house last week, and also brought to safety four pet rabbits. They used an oxygen mask to help one suffering from smoke inhalation.
