After four weeks of voting and over 2.4 million votes, a South Florida landmark has been named the top building in the state.

The Fontainebleau Miami Beach came in number one overall in the Top Buildings Competition commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Built in 1954, the Fountainebleau's emblematic curvilinear design came to define the Miami Beach skyline.

Launched last month, the competition set out to feature the beauty and wonder of Florida's unique architecture.

Apart from the overall winner, 13 other buildings were recognized in separate categories; those winners included the Boca Raton Town Hall which won best civic building, Espirito Santo Plaza in Miami took top commercial honors and the City Park Municipal Garage in Fort Lauderdale was named the best in public use.
