Former firefighter pleads guilty to cocaine distribution

A former Coral Springs firefighter pleaded guilty to providing protection for a criminal informant who was delivering fake cocaine.
Santiago Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of attempted distribution of five kilograms or more of cocaine and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Gonzalez was arrested Jan. 24.
According to a criminal complaint, Gonzalez provided protection for a criminal informant who was picking up and delivering fake cocaine.
Gonzalez faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced May 7.
