FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Fort Lauderdale could soon have a new mass transit system running through downtown. On Monday, city residents voiced their opinion on the proposed Wave Streetcar service, and most had good things to say.

The 2.7 mile proposed system would run through downtown Fort Lauderdale, connecting points between Broward General Medical Center and NE 6th St. The tracks would run along Andrews Avenue, NE 3rd Avenue, and Brickell Avenue, with 10 stops on the route.

The streetcar has been in the planning stages since 2004. Last month, Wave Streetcar received a $18 Million grant from the federal government for the project. If the project moves forward, the Wave Streetcar could be ready by the end of 2015.
