FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Coworkers, friends and people from neighboring bars have begun setting up websites and donations jars to collect money to support The Elbo Room security guard who was shot Friday night.  Police say Christian Nunez was shot in the stomach after trying to kick a man out of the Fort Lauderdale bar.

Investigators say the shooting began as a fight between two men inside the bar. The situation turned more violent when one of the men was asked to leave.

"Once he left the bar, there was a scuffle between him and a security guard," said Detective Deanna Garcia.

Police arrested 50-year-old Gregory Burns shortly after the shooting. He bonded out of jail on Saturday.

Nunez is currently in critical condition but stable condition at the hospital. The fundraising efforts are aimed at helping pay for Nunez climbing medical bills.

In anticipation of big crowds this Labor Day weekend, the City of Fort Lauderdale had already stepped up its police presence on the beach.

"It was very crowded, so it was quite a scene. But, we had off duty detail officers that were already at that location. So, they were able to immediately take control of the situation."
