Officials find alligator in cage and tortoises in pool on Clearwater property

CLEARWATER, Fla. -

Police and code enforcement officers responding to a complaint discovered dozens of animals — including an alligator in a cage and tortoises in the swimming pool — at a home in Clearwater.

Officials found the critters on Thursday.

Besides the gator and tortoises, animals found at the home included chickens, roosters and a pig.

Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts says the owners of the home could face city ordinance violations and a misdemeanor charge for possessing the alligator.
