JUPITER, Fla. -

Germany's leading research center is cutting the ribbon on its new facility in Florida.

The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience officially opens its doors in Jupiter on Wednesday. The 60-year-old organization has more than 80 centers and boasts of producing 17 Nobel laureates.

This is its first location in the U.S.

Backers say its researchers will be probing fundamental brain processes. They hope to make discoveries that could lead to cures for diseases including schizophrenia and Alzheimer's.
