FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Broward County Commissioners and other Broward County government officials broke ground on the new $213 million courthouse on Tuesday morning.

The new courthouse in Fort Lauderdale will be 20-stories, 741,000-square-feett, and have a 500 car secured parking garage.

Among those in attendance: Broward County Commissioners Dale Holness, Chip LaMarca, Kristin Jacobs, Barbara Sharief, Stacy Ritter, Ilene Lieberman, Sue Gunzburger, Lois Wexler; Broward County Mayor John E. Rodstrom, Jr.; Broward County Clerk of the Court Howard Forman; Chief Judge Peter M. Weinstein; Fort Lauderdale Mayor John Seiler; and, Broward County State Attorney Mike Satz.

Construction of the new new courthouse is expected to be finished in 2015. The parking garage is expected to be completed in 2017.
